How verification works

We don’t verify you. The people who hold the records do.

ConnectProve is the workflow between your claim and the organisation or person who can confirm it. We record the answer, who gave it, how and when — and show exactly that to the people you choose.

Each type of claim, step by step

Employment

You enter
Employer, job title, start date, end date or “current”.
The source confirms
Someone at the employer — usually HR or your manager — opens the link and confirms each field separately: worked here, title, start date, end date or current employment.
Recipients see
“Verified by employer”, with the person’s name and role and the organisational email domain they answered from.

References

You enter
Referee’s name, organisation, and their relationship to you.
The source confirms
The referee confirms the relationship, the period they knew you and the context. They may add a short factual comment. There are no star ratings and no character scoring.
Recipients see
“Verified by referee”, with the confirmed fields and date. Valid for 24 months.

Education and qualifications

You enter
The award, the institution or issuing body, and the award date.
The source confirms
The registrar, exams office or issuing body confirms the award was conferred. ConnectProve does not inspect certificates and never labels a document review as institution-verified.
Recipients see
“Verified by institution staff” or “Verified by issuing organisation”. Historical awards do not expire.

Not offered yet — and not faked

Identity and address verification require a specialist, regulated identity provider (document check plus liveness). Until that integration is live, ConnectProve shows identity as not verified. We do not offer criminal-record or Garda vetting checks, which only registered organisations can request through the National Vetting Bureau, and we never display a “clean record” mark.

Verification levels

A level describes the method, not the person. Only level 2 and above is ever labelled verified.

L0
Self-declared
Entered by the person. Not independently checked.
Every claim starts here.
L1
Evidence supplied
Supported by a document the person supplied. The issuing organisation has not confirmed it.
Not issued yet: document review is not live.
L2
Third-party confirmed
Confirmed directly by a named person at the organisation, or by the referee, through a secure link.
Live today for employment, education, qualifications and references.
L3
Authoritative source
Checked against the issuer’s or registry’s own records.
Not issued yet: requires issuer or registry integrations, added only where the issuer offers one.

Every status, and what it means

Every change of status is a recorded event with a time, an actor and the engine version. History is never overwritten.

StatusMeaning
Self-declaredYou have entered the claim. Recipients see it as self-declared.
Awaiting confirmationA secure link has gone to the verifier. Open for 14 days.
VerifiedThe verifier confirmed it. Their name, role, email domain, the fields confirmed and the date are recorded.
Not confirmedThe verifier said it is incorrect and gave a reason. You can correct it and ask again, or contest it.
Needs re-verificationA current role confirmed more than 12 months ago. You may have moved on, so it must be confirmed again.
Verification expiredA reference older than 24 months. Ask for a fresh one.
Under reviewYou have contested a result. Shown as “Under review” until resolved.
Confirmation withdrawnA confirmation was withdrawn. No longer shown as verified.

Safeguards against self-verification

  • The link goes only to the mailbox you name, is single-use and expires after 14 days. Possession of the link proves the answer came from that mailbox.
  • Recipients see the domain the answer came from. A personal domain (Gmail, Outlook, iCloud and similar) is never labelled as the organisation confirming.
  • You cannot send a request to your own address.
  • Editing a verified claim clears the confirmation — the verifier confirmed the old wording, not the new one.
  • Recipients can report a profile. Verifiers can say a claim is incorrect. You can contest a result. Each is reviewed and logged.
